9) If you could invite 5 people to dinner who would you invite? First, I would invite Bruce Willis to pick his brains about fighting terrorists and driving cars into flying helicopters. Second, John Key because he is an everyman and would get on great with everyone. Thirdly, Scarlett Johansson because I'd like a crack at that. Fourthly, Chris Farley, for some unmatched physical comedy and great jokes. And Finally, Homer Simpson Just cause the Simpsons is hilarious.

10) Who was your 1st kiss? The year was 2001, I was a spritely 14 year old boy with a twinkle in my eye and a box of Waikato Draft in my belly. She was an exotic beauty from Brazil, I cannot remember her name. As soon as our eyes met, I knew something was afoot. Being young and naive, I had no idea what that something was. The encounter was brief but memorable and I will never forget her for the rest of my years.

15) What was the cause behind your worst ever hangover? A three day bender, WORST HANGOVER EVER.

16) Worst job you ever had? Working in a terracotta tile factory. Heavy lifting, factory conditions, long hours, and un intelligent conversation.

17) What’s your ultimate hangover cure? Red Wine

19) What is your strategy when it comes to picking up the ladies in town? I'm like a human venus fly trap, I just open my arms and they fly in to be slayed.

Features Featured Therapist of the Week!!! *Special RWC Edition*

Well boys I hope we are all alive today, I for one have been in a world of trouble all day and I have heard through  the grapevine of a few Therapists in desperate need of a powerade. Nevertheless it was an occasion to celebrate and I hope an enjoyable time was had by all. The subject of this special RWC edition of Therapist of the Week, is a foundation Therapist and has represented the team exceptionally always, introducing to you Russell 'the love muscle' Keegan our tighthead prop/ hooker!

14)   What’s your favourite ‘I was hanging with the boys this one time and...’ story? Many to tell but one that springs to mind involves many of the current therapists. During our under 19s year, after prizegiving at the cambridge we decided to head back to ralphs flat at Mackenzies and have a few more drinks. What resulted was carnage running up the street, general hooliganism, people climbing over cars, being tackled through fences... good times had by all
15)   What was the cause behind your worst ever hangover? Would have to be after the school ball, drinking half a bottle of whiskey (a big achievement back then). Got sent home from work the next day for general drunkenness and spending most of the time in the bathroom spewing, rather than serving customers. The two day hangover took its toll.
16)   Worst job you ever had? Doing promotional work for a tampon company in wellington. Had to wear a large sign on my back and walk up and down lampton quay handing out flyers. You would be surprised how many people that you know, saw you looking like a dick

19)   What is your strategy when it comes to picking up the ladies in town? My stratigies have quite a low strike rate, but generally involves alot of alcohol and I forget how the rest goes
20)   What’s the one song you want to hear before you run out onto the field for the OBU Therapists? Your the Voice, John Farnham
21)   Motto? work smart, play hard

CCheers Russ, you're a true champion. On another note good luck to you all of the boys who have exams and I truly hope we all have a sensational summer. 2012 will be the Year of the Therapist.

Building on RWC 2011

With one game left to play in RWC 2011 it is fair to say that the tournament has been a success with attendance targets met, a lot of interest in all the games played and some exciting rugby to boot. That said, for many New Zealanders RWC 2011 will only prove to be a success if our boys ensure the trophy doesn't leave on a plane for France this coming Sunday!

Looking to the future though there is still room for the International Rugby Board (the IRB) to improve the RWC, especially for the tier two teams who compete but in reality are just there to make up the numbers. The call has been made for the RWC to adopt the format seen in rugby sevens tournaments around the world where teams who get knocked out in pool play can still contest for the Plate, Bowl or Shield via a series of knockout games. Following the rugby sevens formula the losing quarter finalists would contest for the Plate, the teams that came third in their groups would contest for the Bowl and the fourth and fifth placed teams would contest for the Shield. I do realise that this deviates slightly from the current rugby sevens format. If we were to apply this to RWC 2011 here are the games that we would have seen. (please note I didn't use any formula to schedule teams)

The Plate
Game 1: Argentina v South Africa
Game 2: Ireland v England
Game 3: Game 1 Winner v Game 2 Winner.

The Bowl
Game 1: Tonga v Scotland
Game 2: Italy v Samoa
Game 3: Game 1 Winner v Game 2 Winner.

The Shield
Game 1: Canada v Romania
Game 2: Japan v Georgia
Game 3: USA v Namibia
Game 4: Fiji v Russia
Game 5: Semi Final
Game 6: Semi Final
Game 7: Final

For many of the tier two teams making the RWC is the entire focus of their international schedule. Whereas the tier one teams such as the All Blacks or England compete in prestigious tournaments such as the Tri Nations or the Six Nations in between RWC's there is very little in the way of regular tournaments for tier two/ three teams to compete in aside from RWC qualifying matches and then the RWC itself. It is hardly fair that they turn up to make up the numbers so to speak and then are discarded after pool play.

More than that, the Plate games could have been based in Wellington, the Bowl games in Hamilton and the Shield games in both Dunedin and Invercargill with the final in Dunedin. This would have prolonged the RWC 2011 experience throughout New Zealand, instead of all the action heading up to Auckland during the latter and most important stages of the tournament. The added games would have meant greater revenues for the IRB, not only in ticket sales but also in broadcast fees because they have a larger product on offer. The IRB could even use the additional trophies to honour some of the biggest names in the game, the Colin Meads Plate, the Danie Craven Shield etc.

It also would have offered the fans something a bit different to the rugby viewing palate than the usual fare on offer in the latter stages of RWC 2011. If you compare the RWC’s finalists from 1999, 2003 and 2007 you will not see a whole lot of difference.

1999
South Africa v England
Australia v Wales
New Zealand v Scotland
France v Argentina

2003
England v Wales
New Zealand v South Africa
France v Ireland
Australia v Scotland

2007
Australia v England
New Zealand v France
South Africa v Fiji
Argentina v Scotland

Including this tournament 10 teams have made the qualifying rounds since rugby turned professional in 1999, the first tournament that was played in the modern professional era of rugby union. While this is no bad thing the IRB could do a lot worse than to take steps to ensure that every team at the RWC is playing for something other than just making up the numbers.

Features Featured Therapist of the Week!!!

Hey guys, long time no blog due to unforeseen circumstances. Big game this weekend at our bogey ground Te Whaea, a must win if we want to have a sniff around the post season and put some silverware in the Therapists trophy cabinet so make sure you're all there!! We have a ripper of a Therapist this week too, with this man it is always a pleasure and never a chore, the one.. the only Jason 'Ducky' Kelleher!!!

1) Name: Jason Edwin Kelleher

2) Birthday: 14 Jan 1990, Waitangi, Chatham Islands

3) Hometown and Province: Napier, Hawkes Bay

4) Physical stats: 75kg, 1.75m

5) Education: Te One Primary School, Eskdale Primary/ Intermediate, Napier Mens High School. Currently at Vic doing a BCA majoring in Accounting and Commercial Law with a Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting.

6) Best rugby moment? Would have to be back in 2008 when I played for a Chatham Islands Invitational vs. BOP Classic XV at Bay Park as a curtain raiser for BOP vs. Otago. We got thumped 53-14 but it was an awesome experience playing in front of friends, family and a crowd getting behind the under dogs.

7) Best OBU Therapists moment? Making the finals in our first year and dotting against the Yardies. Called a mayday, received a miracle ball from Clarky to me on the wing about 30 out, stepped inside my opposite and pinned my ears for the corner.

8) Who is your all time Rugby hero? Byron Kelleher. A real tough competitor and a well rounded player. I used to tell everyone he's my cousin, still do sometimes.

9) If you could invite 5 people to dinner who would you invite? Katy Perry- enough said. Scarlet Johansson- following tradition, she would be plan B if Katy and I didn't hit it off. Mohammed Ali (in his prime)- one of the greatest athletes ever, hopefully I'd learn a thing or two. Bear Grylls- to spin a few yarns. and Peter Griffin on entertainment.

10) Who was your 1st kiss? Sophie Baty, 3rd form junior social.

11) Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Halfway through my 20 year plan... Hopefully have my CA qualification by then and a sweet job, bit of travel under my belt. I also hope to be involved with the Therapist Super 16 Franchise in some shape or form.

12) Who is your favourite fellow OBU Therapist? Chunky. Hard working, reliable and a gc. One of the better refs we've had this season too.

13) Nicknames? Ducky, Duck, Quacks, Postie, Pedro, Buddha

14) What’s your favourite ‘I was hanging with the boys this one time and...’ story? .. I thought it would be a good idea to streak through one of my lectures. Rob Drake was my partner in crime and had a few more accomplices to drop our clothes off at the escape route. The streak went well. The lecturer got the fright of her life after a few gazelle jumps and hip thrusts as we flew by. Even got a bit of an ovation from the class.. It all went to plan except for the part when Dre left my undies and shorts round at the entrance so when Rob and the others ditched I was standing outside the campus security office with just a t-shirt and jandals which was no bloody good to me. So I had to streak past the Kelburn Parade roundabout, through the quad to hide in some bushes by the old student health building until the guys with my clothes found me... That’s one for the grandkids.

15) What was the cause behind your worst ever hangover? My brothers 21st hands down. Drinking right through to the next day plus a lack of sleep... Munted for the next couple days.

16) Worst job you ever had? A one off job as a glassy at Garden club. Ended up having to work part of the night upstairs at Ivy- a gay bar if you don’t know. Pretty uncomfortable.

17) What’s your ultimate hangover cure? 1-2L of Chocolate milk.

18) What’s your cooking specialty? Mash spud and a hearty casserole. Perfect for these winter months.

19) What is your strategy when it comes to picking up the ladies in town? Busting out some fully sick dance moves is the usual strategy. A few beers to get the dutch courage up and a wingman are also essential.

20) What’s the one song you want to hear before you run out onto the field for the OBU Therapists? “Around The World” – Red Hot Chili Peppers.

21) What was the best story told at your 21st? Had a few goodies but the queef story to keep it G rated was the winner on the day I think. Probably one of my most embarrassing moments.

Cheers Ducky mate, see you lads friday. Lets make it happen!!

Features Featured Therapist of the Week!!!

I know it's been a bit average lately but here's hoping Celia Wade-Brown and Co. at the council will let boys be boys and get us on the fields this week so we can try on our new jerseys for size!! Regardless this week we have one of the true champions of the Therapist cause, a founding father no less, a man who always gives 100% when he steps out onto the field in the OBU Therapist jersey, it's my pleasure to give to you Hamish Thomson!!!

1) Name: Hamish Bruce Thomson

2) Birthday: 11/03/1990 in Dannevirke, NZ

3) Hometown: and Provincea: Dannevirke, Hawkes Bay

4) Physical stats: 80kg, 1.81m

5) Education: St Joesph's Primary School, Dannevirke High School and Victoria Uni Degree in Commerce (Int. Business, Com Law, Accounting)

6) Best rugby moment:  Few contenders but the best moment would probably be a Dvk 1st XV game against Gisborne Boys 1st XV in my 6th form. We were beating them at halftime and ended up only losing by a small margin. I pulled out a man of match performance with the standout moment for me was nailing their big, black winger (possibly one of the Gear brothers) in a try saving tackle in front of a bumper crowd.

7) Best OBU Therapists moment: Best Therapist moment was beating the Dead Ants and watching them whinge and sulk afterwards (hopefully we never lose to them again). Oh and making the final in our debut year was pretty special as well.

8)8)
Who is your all time Rugby hero: Since I was not lucky enough to witness the legend Dave 'Trapper' Loveridge in action, my hero would have to be Israel Dagg. I watched this guy play in a primary school tournament and he completely dominated. Nothing has changed and I am expecting him to be an All Black great.

9) If you could invite 5 people to dinner who would you invite: David Bain: Either hooked up to a lie detector or have his drink laced with truth potion whipped up by Snape (I really want to find out what happened). Hamish & Andy: Couple of the funniest guys out, as I can only pick one I will probably lean towards Andy (to avoid confusion over Hamish having the same name as me). Scarlett Johansson: Something to look at and I might seat her next to Bain just to see how things develop. Jack Reacher: One of the toughest guys out, knows his shit and would have some interesting yarns. Suzy the Waitress: Purely for revenge purposes, lets see who gets poisoned this time bitch.

10) Who was your 1st kiss: Was at one of the first Dvk parties I ever went to in the 4th-5th Form holidays i think. First time a lot of girls had drunk and it was pretty easy pickings from what I remember, not sure too many people missed out on a kiss (the high school version of spin the bottle was in full swing). Good night for me as I managed to get of the mark with a double.

11) Where do you see yourself in 10 years: Ummm, well I quite like Wellington so hopefully located there. As for a job, my hopes lie with the Therapist brand expanding to becoming a force in the sporting and commercial world, thus leading to several high paying jobs to be filled by me and any other capable Therapists.

12) Who is your favourite fellow OBU Therapist: I know he isnt playing this year, but my favourite Therapist would have to be Peter "RAAAANNDRUP" Randrup. Exciting, elusive and electric, Randrup entertained the crowds in a way not seen since a young Jonah Lomu burst onto the scene. Everytime the ranging lock touched the ball there was a collective intake of breath as teamates and opposition alike wondered what magic would be weaved. Top guy and there will definately be attempts to lure Randrup back to Therapists rugby in the near future.

13) Nickname: Dvk nicknames; Tomo, Tomps, Hami, Dannevegas, Vegas.

14) What’s your favourite ‘I was hanging with the boys this one time and...’ story:  Cant go past the time I was hanging with a few of the boys and we won over 6 thousand dollars on the amazing horse that is Storman Norman. Was an impossibly close race that left 5 grown men screaming and jumping around the room. Admittedly I only won 700 that day but was still one of the greatest thrills of my life and I have no doubt that I will spend a lot of money trying to repeat it!

15) What was the cause behind your worst ever hangover:  Crate day in first year, can't remember much from it. Spent all sunday spewing up black shit from my stomach. Truly horrible taste in my mouth for days.

16) Worst job you ever had:  Worst job was definitely scraping paint of the bottom of a massive empty swimming pool. It was hot, the paint was stubborn, and kneeling on the knees all day made for tough toil.

17) What’s your ultimate hangover cure: Havent really found a cure yet. Bacon and eggs always goes down well and I tend to change up what drink I get, though a milkshake is pretty hard to beat.

18) What’s your cooking specialty:  Nachos. Pretty obvious answer here as I have cooked the same thing for about 60 weeks straight. I once threatened to cook something else but my flatmate Russell gave me the saddest look I have ever seen, couldnt let the man down.

19) What is your strategy when it comes to picking up the ladies in town: Been out of the game a little while now but my general strategy involved drinking as much as I could and hoping for the best on the d floor. This method skipped any ground work and due to this a low strike rate is inevitable. However, I hear the new strategy is to pretend you find some money on the ground and use that story as an ice breaker with a chosen target and then subsequently offer to buy them a drink with the "discovered" cash. From what I hear it works a treat.

20) What’s the one song you want to hear before you run out onto the field for the OBU Therapists: Il be Ready- Baywatch theme song. Is there a more motivating and inspiring song out there?

21) Dannevirke: Manawatu or Hawkes Bay?  Have ties to both but it will always be Hawkes Bay in my mind and the minds of most of the general Dannevirke population. Wairarapa is pretty close also...

Cheers Vegas, hope to see you all this weekend, if not on the field then definitely at the 'bridge!!

Features Featured Therapist of the Week!!!

Hello again fellow Therapists, gutted our game got cancelled last week but hopefully the Council will let our bunch of scallywags and vagabonds on their hallowed fields for a game this week. With regards to next weeks featured Therapist I think my parents are coming to watch this weekend so if anyone draws the fullback this weekend to put me under the posts consider yourself a shoo in!! This week Features Featured Therapist is reputedly 2010's Nicest Guy in Wellington, a veritable force at hooker or on the flank, the one and only Nick Mitchell!!!

1) Name: Nicholas Samuel Mitchell

2) Birthday: 15/08/1989 in New Plymouth, New Zealand

3) Hometown and Province: NP in the nakbok

4) Physical stats: 104 kg, 1.79m

5) Education: NPBHS and have just completed a bachelor in science at VUW, shit its scary saying that!

6) Best rugby moment: A few goodies but it would probably have to Highlands Intermediate 2nd XV vs Wanganui Intermediate in my form 1 year. Managed to weave through a few would be defenders to score the winning try in the last few minutes. few years back now but it still sticks.

7) Best OBU Therapists moment: On the field would probably have to be my debut vs Poneke and my one and only appearance in 2010, obviously that first time is always pretty special. Off the field any of the times at the bridge when things have got messy

8) Who is your all time Rugby hero: Definitely the great Derek Maisey, one of the under-rated playmakers to play provincial/super rugby in NZ. Had the crispest wide ball in the country when in his prime. Wonderful star for the mooloos.

9) If you could invite 5 people to dinner who would you invite: Dave Grohl of the foo fighters because he is a legend and i reckon he would spin a good yarn. Guido Hatzis to provide a bit of humour by verbally tearing everyone at the table to shreads. Ke$ha to ask her what its like to brush your teeth with a bottle of jack. Nicole off Home and Away to try and lure her away from Angelo and into my arms and Harry Rednapp to give him a bit of advice on how to get spurs back in the top 4 next season.

10) Who was your 1st kiss: Haha it was at my birthday party and we were playing this game where you sat in a circle and had someone blindfolded in the middle had to go sit on someones lap and guess who it was. this young girl came and sat on my lap and instead of guessing who it was started kissing me! was the best 20th birthday party i could ask for!

11) Where do you see yourself in 10 years: Hmmm struggling to see just ten days down the track at the moment but in 10 years hopefully might have found a nice lady and have an enjoyable job.

12) Who is your favourite fellow OBU Therapist: Zac Heale. Great bloke and is coming on in leaps and bounds in his therapists career, great stuff!

13) Nicknames: Chunky, Mitchelli, Olas (an alternative to Nick from Nicholas), Badjelly the Mitch, Mr Mischief, Nicky Butt.

14) What’s your favourite ‘I was hanging with the boys this one time and...’ story: Mind is pretty blank but funny moment happened the other day when was playing pool with my good mate down at bowlarama in NP when from left field these semi-mentally ill people just bursted randomly into a naki naki naki chant, really spurred me on in the game of pool i reckon.

15) What was the cause behind your worst ever hangover: Probably have to say rhythm and vines 08/09 where the cause was probably that i didnt sleep then couldnt sleep during the day due to being stuck at the camp ground in the heat. felt like i was gonna die. good times though.

16) Worst job you ever had: Working at the local fish and chip shop. the asian owners were constantly on my case to make sure i did things right and only paid me $6 an hour! the pits...

17) What’s your ultimate hangover cure: Another few beverages, hands down... ah nah to avoid becoming an alcoholic it is probably a good old fry up. bita bacon, eggs, mushrooms, onions, chips. away laughing

18) What’s your cooking specialty: Back myself to cook a pretty decent roast. but im fairly versatile to be fair

19) What is your strategy when it comes to picking up the ladies in town: I like to use an old Stevie Wonder song/lyric as motivation. Sign it by making eye contact with the target. Seal it by approaching the target and showing her your moves. and Deliver it enriching her with your charm.. if it only it was that easy

20) What’s the one song you want to hear before you run out onto the field for the OBU Therapists: Dei Hamo - We gone ride

21) Does Nick Mitchell have a dark side: Haha apparently not but if you play golf with me or catch me on a bad day at the tab you may see something resembling a dark side

Cheers Nick mate and I'll be seeing you boys on gameday!! If not enjoy your holidays and most importantly, be safe, cheers!!
